Bio

Sandra Spencer, Pastry Chef/Owner of CakeFest, trained at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago  (formerly known as CHIC).  She has always enjoyed baking and the art of pastry, but her desire to specialize in one-of-a-kind, handcrafted cakes was sparked during an intensive externship at Marked for Dessert.  There she had the opportunity to learn from Master Sugar Artist, Mark Seaman, at his upscale cake boutique in Chicago.  After culinary school, Sandra continued to hone her cake skills at Chicago’s Bittersweet Pastry Shop.

In 2004, Sandra was hired as the Cake Designer for Vanille Pâtisserie, where she worked with Pastry Chefs Dimitri and Keli Fayard at their gourmet French pastry shop in Chicago.  She worked at Vanille Pâtisserie for three years and was responsible for all aspects of the growing custom cake station.

Sandra participated in Brides Magazine’s “Cakewalk in Grand Central.”  She was one of just fifty cake stylists from across the U.S. asked to design a wedding cake that was showcased in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal for this premiere 2005 event.  Her cake designs have been featured in Chicago Social Brides, Chicago Style Weddings, and For Her Information magazine.

After moving to Virginia, Sandra worked for five years in the pastry kitchen of the Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City. CakeFest Sugar Art was created out of a desire to provide unique, quality custom, handcrafted cakes to the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. area.  Your event is special…your cake should reflect that.
